WAIS-AIS athlete Cam Meyer has produced a top quality ride to finish eighth in the closing stage time trial of the Giro d’Italia.

Riding for his professional road team Garmin-Transitions, Meyer blitzed the 15km circuit to make it two from two top ten finishes in the 2010 Giro d’Italia time trials.

Meyer finished amongst illustrious names such as Cadel Evans, Bradley Wiggins and stage winner Gustav Erik Larsson – of team Saxo Bank.

Team Garmin-Transitions Director Sportif Matt White reserved special praise for Meyer in his on-line blog claiming the WAIS scholarship holder had matched it with some of the world’s best.

“Our Aussie time trial champ, 22 year-old Cam Meyer, exhibited once again his TT talents at the end of his first three-week tour. To go head-to-head with some of the best time trial riders in the world is no mean feat. Classy ride, mate,” White’s message read.

Cameron Meyer’s younger brother Travis Meyer was also in action for road team Garmin-Transitions this week, competing in the Bayern-Rundfahrt five day tour in Germany.

Meyer produced a quality campaign to finish fourth in the in time trial fourth stage and second in the fifth and final stage, after launching an ambitious break-away. Meyer claimed 34th position overall, and was second in the points classification, signalling his future road credentials.
