Parnova Back in Action as World Champs Approach

Published On: 2 September 2019

Liz Parnova returned to competitive action over the
weekend taking sixth place at a track and field meet in Switzerland with a best
jump of 4.41m.

The 2019 Bellinzona meet saw Parnova hit the runway for
the first time since she won the Oceania Championship title in Townsville with
a new personal best height of 4.60m back in June.

She’s currently on a European competition tour which is a
key part of her preparation for the 2019 World Championships which will take
place in Doha from 27 September, through to 6 October.

The pole vault attracted a star-cast in Switzerland with several
top international talents competing, including world and Olympic medallist
Sandi Morris of the USA.

The competition was won by another American however, with
28 year-old Katie Nageotte continuing her impressive 2019 season with a victory
height of 4.77m which bettered Morris’ mark of 4.70m.

USA recorded a Bellinzona podium clean-sweep with Emily
Grove third on 4.63m. London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Yarisley Silva of
Cuba was fourth on 4.56m.

Parnova has two further competitions coming up, with meets scheduled in Germany on the 8th and Austria on the 12th before attending the final
staging-camp preparations with the Australian Flame team ahead of the World
Championships.

With the Olympic qualification window open, Parnova will
be hoping for a strong showing in Doha to advance her hopes of securing a spot
on the Australian Olympic Team in Tokyo.

2019 has been a huge year for the London
Olympian with a series of personal bests coming after a switch to work with
coach Paul Burgess after a number of injury interrupted seasons.
