WAIS cyclist Michael Storer has claimed time trial and road race victories at Cycling Australia’s Junior Moutain Climb Championships at Mt Buffalo.

Taking on the best young riders in the country, Storer – a 2014 junior road world championship medallist – proved a cut above to win the time trial and subsequent road race, with the later courtesy of a successful solo breakaway.

A short but challenging course was dealt to the U19 cyclists in the men’s time trial, but Storer’s international experience shone through, as he completed the circuit in 13:19.96mins, nearly ten seconds faster than second place Harry Sweeny.

Fellow WAIS athlete Darcy Pirotta clocked the 10thfastest time.

It was in the road race however, that Storer clearly stamped his authority over the field, charging to a dominant solo win nearly three minutes clear of the peloton. Storer seized an opportunity on a climb to break clear of the field, and was never headed – crossing the finish line all by himself in a time of 2:13.35hrs.

Pirotta crossed home in 11th place, clocking a very respectable 2:18.59 in a field of over 50 athletes.
