Tough World Cup Final Campaign for WA 470 Pair
WA 470 sailors Nia Jerwood and Monique de Vries have chalked a difficult World Cup Series Final down as a learning curve after they finished in 19th place.
Competing in the final event of the World Cup series, the West Australian talents struggled to find momentum and consistency over the course of the week, with Jerwood suggesting the duo would ensure they learn from the experience ahead of their next campaign in Germany.
“Bit of a tough last half of the week for us in Marseille,” she wrote on her athlete Facebook page. “Time to regroup, keep on fighting and take what we have learnt into Kiel Week.”
They accrued 135.0 nett points in France, with a sixth place finish in their second race demonstrating what the young pair are capable when firing.
Victory went to the Great Britain pairing of Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre on 24.0 points, with crews from Spain and Italy taking second and third respectively.
Meanwhile in Singapore, young Western Australian Nacra 15 sailor Shannon Dalton has taken victory at the Singapore National Championships.
Dalton paired with Singapore native Vicke Young and sailed an impressive campaign to win on 24.0 nett points.
The Leschenault based athlete is quickly establishing an elite junior resume in the Nacra 15 class.
With the World Championships in Denmark slowly approaching, a number of WA sailors have now embarked on European training tours ahead of the year’s biggest event.
