Tricky conditions on opening day of Laser regatta for Matt Wearn

Having waited nearly two years from selection to make his Olympic debut, Matt Wearn faced tricky conditions on the opening day of the Laser regatta in Enoshima.

Less-than-ideal conditions saw Wearn have a tough first race. Finding himself in the middle of the fleet from the outset, the slow winds left little room for Wearn to unleash his experience and move through before finishing in 17th position.

Wearn was looking to better that position in the second race, before light and shifting winds forced that race to be abandoned a little over halfway.

Action will resume on Monday for the second race. With just one race completed the field remains wide open with the next nine races deciding the top 10 to make it through to the medal race.
