Michael Storer celebrates his podium finish at the Trofeo Buffoni

Cycling Australia has announced its final squad for the 2014 UCI Road World Championships to be held in Ponferrada, Spain from September 21-28.

WAIS cyclists will be represented in the men’s junior and men’s U23 events with Michael Storer and Rob Power both set to make the road world championship debuts.

Storer is part of Australia’s four-strong U19 contingent, with the youngster heading into competition in good form, after finishing third in a recent lead up event in Italy, the Trofeo Buffoni.

Rob Power is one of Australian road cycling’s fastest rising talents, with the U23 rep considered a strong chance of securing a professional contract in coming seasons. He earlier this year won a string of prestigious amateur races in Italy and will form a crucial part of the Australian road team’s tactics for the road race in Spain.

WAIS coach Clay Worthington said: “I was very pleased with Jade’s results, she was very competitive.”

“She made a play to win the road race from about 700m out but came about 40-50m short of the line before the bunch rolled over her,” he said.
