WA Sailors in Contention at Delta Lloyd Regatta

Published On: 25 May 2017

Western Australian sailors Matt Wearn and Luke Elliott currently hold second and third place respectively at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in the Netherlands.

In total, four West Aussies are in action, with youth sailors Zoe Thomson and Elyse Ainsworth getting a taste of the elite open standard as they tackle the laser radial class.

The Delta Lloyd Regatta holds special significance for Wearn – with the 21 year-old having claimed the title here in 2015 when he last raced the course.

After four races of the 2017 edition, Wearn has shown no signs of slowing down either, earning two fourth place finishes, before a third in race three and a victory in his most recent effort for 12 net points.

He currently sits level on points with race leader Elliot Hanson of Great Britain who holds top ranking based on countback.

Luke Elliott is putting together a strong regatta, with the 23 year-old in third place after four top 10 finishes.

In the laser radial standings, Thomson is currently 46th overall and Ainsworth holds a 48th position ranking.

The 2017 Delta Lloyd Regatta concludes this weekend, further results can be followed via the official website: http://www.deltalloydregatta.org/
