Four WAIS athletes have been named in the Cycling Australia ‘Cyclones’ team that will contest the Melbourne round of the 2008-09 UCI Track World Cup Classics being staged at Hisense Arena from 20 to 22 November.

Beijing Olympian Cam Meyer will be joined by fellow West Australian riders Luke Durbridge, Sarah Kent and Josephine Tomic in the Cyclones team as they go head to head with the best track cyclists in the world.

For 17 year-old Durbridge, 18 year-old Kent and 19 year-old Tomic it marks a successful progression to senior level after all three won medals at international junior level recently.

The four cyclists are all coached by WAIS head cycling coach Darryl Benson who was named the Coach of the Year at this year’s WAIS Champions Breakfast.

Fellow WAIS cyclist Scott Sunderland will also feature at the Melbourne event, competing for professional Team Toshiba.

The five West Australian cyclists will all compete at this Saturday’s Perth Grand Perth at the Midvale Speed Dome.
