The Australian Junior Track Cycling Championships were held at Adelaide’s Superdrome recently, with some of WA’s brightest emerging talents winning medals in an encouraging sign for the future.

WAIS juniors Matt Jackson and Niken Jefferies were members of the Western Australian team pursuit squad that claimed national bragging rights, with Jackson captaining the team.

Jefferies showed some versatility to collect a bronze medal in the individual pursuit, before turning his wares to the sprint, where he picked up a silver medal as a member of the Western Australian team sprint.

Fellow WAIS scholarship holder Tahlay Chrisite had a similarly impressive campaign on the Adelaide boards, snaring the sprint national title, to go with silver in the team sprint, before collecting bronze in the time trial.

Christie also showed her power in winning the keirin, which was a demonstration event at this year’s championships.

The results for the WAIS youngsters led by WAIS cycling coach Clay Worthington, follow on from the impressive performances posted by the senior and U19 athletes at the recent National Track Cycling Championships in Sydney.
