WAIS pole vaulters Henri Brown, Emma Philippe and Nina Kennedy will take to the runway this week at the 2014 Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Sydney.

The Championships which are set to break Australian Athletics’ participation records will showcase the finest emerging track and field talent from across the country.

Key amongst the next generation of Australian Spark hopefuls is the vaulting triumvirate of Henri Brown (17) in the men’s, and the dynamic duo of Emma Philippe (16) and Nina Kennedy (16) in the women’s pole vault competitions.

Brown will compete in the men’s U20 event on Sunday March 16, whilst training partners Philippe and Kennedy will jump in both Friday’s U20 women’s pole vault, and Saturday’s U18 women’s event.

The U20 events at this year’s Championships double as selection trials for this year’s World Junior Athletics Championships, which will be held in Eugene, USA July 22-27.

Athletics Australia Chief Executive Dallas O’Brien anticipated a highly successful event, with numbers continuing to build for the sport.

“The Australian Junior Athletics Championships showcase our nation’s best developing talent and we couldn’t be happier to report that the event continues to grow in both size and esteem within the athletics community,”he said.

The Australian Junior Athletics Championships commence at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre on Wednesday 12 March, and continue until Sunday 16 March.
