WAIS Stars Shine in Selection Trials

Day One of
the Australian athletics Selection Trials has produced some strong results for
WAIS athletes with Kylie Wheeler and John Steffensen both enjoying good form in
their events.

Kylie
Wheeler is a near certainty to book her
Beijing ticket after a fine display in the
Women’s Heptathlon. Wheeler recorded the fastest time in the 200metres Open, the
fastest time in the 100metres Hurdles Open, finished third in the High Jump
with a best of 1.77metres and claimed second in the Shot Put Open with a best
of 12.69metres.

John
Steffensen was victorious in his heat for the Men’s 400metres after clocking a
time of 46.78secs with Mark Ormrod 46.65secs quickest in heats representing
SAIS.

In the
Women’s 400metres Hurdles WAIS star Lyndsay Pekin won her heat with a good time
of 59.69.

WA Triple
Jumper Emma Knight won her heat with a best mark of 13.07metres.

Day Two
action includes the men’s Pole Vault final, the women’s Javelin final, the men’s
400metres final and the men’s and women’s 100metres finals.
