In cold and windy conditions, Wheeler amassed 6026 points equaling the event meet record.

Wheeler also recorded a personal best in the Javelin, one of her favourite events in competition, a positive sign with less than a month to the opening ceremony of the Games.

Despite being on the other side of the planet, Wheeler’s Coach, Lyn Foreman was tracking her pupils every score with interest.

“Kylie was disappointed with her efforts on day one,” Foreman said. “The conditions were awful, but she pushed through and produced a much better second day, which included a PB in the Jav, followed up by a solid 800m.”

Wheeler scored victory over the third ranked British hepthalete, Julie Hollman and a leading junior athlete, Lucy Boggis, who also doubles as Tempest in the British version of Gladiators.

Wheeler is set to compete in events in London, before setting for Hong Kong, for final preparations ahead of joining up with the Australian Track and Field team for the Beijing Games in August.
